The Low Pay Commission seeks evidence annually to advise the Government on the National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) hourly pay rates.

Read our response to the Low Pay Commission consultation 2024, in which we analyse LMO findings and the impact of the April 2024 NLW increase to £11.44 (9.8%), particularly on employment, hours, and earnings. 

In addition, we explored the effects of the rise on the below areas:

  • Prices.
  • Productivity.
  • Pay structures and differentials.
  • Progression and job moves.
  • Training.
  • Investment.
  • Recruitment.
  • Job quality and security.

In light of the findings, we make recommendations regarding: next year’s NLW, lowering the age threshold, and the treatment of apprentices. We also advise that more support should be put in place to help employer compliance with minimum wages, and that the cost of living should be considered when setting the NLW for 2025.
