Welcome to our branch

Welcome to the CIPD Branch in North London. We hope that you will find our web page informative and engaging.

My name is Arlene Hinds, I'm the chair of the branch. I am currently an HR Director within the health and social care sector and bring my experience from the people profession spanning over 25 years. I have delivered part of an initiative to support sustainable business under the European Funding Development Programme for Women in Business, and worked with small business owners to produce practical and strategic solutions.

At the CIPD Branch in North London we aim to drive local engagement, designing and delivering learning, networking and CPD interventions for people professionals. Our branch committe meet regularly to plan a programme of branch activities, and we all hope to meet lots of engaged people professionals, at all career stages, at one of our events.

Get involved

We value the CIPD purpose to champion better working lives for all. Our branch is run by CIPD members who are a vibrant, diverse team of HR and L&D professionals. We are all committed to supporting our members through working together and by partnering with other experts from a wide range of businesses to deliver relevant and interesting branch events.

Our specialist equality, diversity and inclusion, and independent consultants groups aim to deliver tangible outcomes to continually develop and support in these areas.

The North London Branch is part of the CIPD in London; a partnership between all seven London branches, which launched in September 2013.

Our branch committee meet regularly, with the aim that our efforts will benefit you in producing a relevant and topical events calendar and a more consistent offer. We run an annual meeting in June each year, to share how we have met and continue to meet objectives and to discuss your feedback through a question and answer session.

Our annual student prize giving recognises the efforts of those nominated who have studied to achieve a professional qualification.

Our online branch events can be watched afterwards via YouTube.

Join one of our special interest groups

Our special interest groups are all about bringing together people professionals who share the same passions, to connect, swap ideas, and learn from each other.
This autumn (2025), we are excited to launch two brand-new groups. Get in touch to find out more, and let us know what other special interest groups you’d like to see in the future.

Equality, diversity and inclusion

Our EDI special interest group holds events to cover and discuss topics related to inclusion and equality in the workplace and provide support and development. We invite speakers with expertise in diversity to share their thoughts, campaigns and guidance for people professionals.

Our group events are listed in the branch Eventbrite feed.

Independent consultants

Our group is for members who are independent consultants and self-employed practitioners that work alone. We provide a support mechanism so if you are feeling isolated as a self-employed practitioner, or need another professional to talk through your woes, or just need someone to bounce around your ideas, we are here for you.

We run informal face-to-face meets with food and drink to enjoy each other’s company whilst discussing our learnings from each other.

Our group events are listed in the branch Eventbrite feed.

Friends of North London branch

Are you a member of the CIPD’s North London branch who would like to be more involved?

Please consider becoming a volunteer 'friend' of the North London Branch committee where your involvement can be flexible and around your skills and time available. The branch runs a friends' group to support and enhance the voluntary work of the North London branch committee and to further engage our members.

Being a friend would provide you with:

  • greater networking opportunities
  • insight into the branch committee and the role of its members, which is useful if you are considering taking on a full committee member role
  • an opportunity to increase your skills in a specific area such as presentation skills, event organisation or social media
  • an addition to your CV

We can provide opportunities to:

  • engage other members at branch events
  • introduce the branch to potential speakers in your network
  • organise an event or assist a committee member with this
  • contribute ideas and feedback to the committee
  • write a newsletter article

If you are interested in becoming a committee friend, we would love to hear from you. Please email us.

Get in touch to find out more. And let us know your ideas for other special interest groups.
