Level 3 L&D Practitioner apprenticeship

The apprentice is ready for EPA when they have:

• been on programme for a minimum of 372 days
• achieved at least Level 2 English and Maths
• completed their Learning Journal
• completed a Work-Based Project Plan
• signed the Apprentice Consent Form

The Work-Based Project will be a real piece of work which will cover all aspects of the learning cycle including delivery of the actual developed learning solution. The Professional Discussion is a two-way structured conversation between the apprentice and assessor.

The work-based project is:

• written as an executive summary report 2,250 words (+/-10%)
• submitted three weeks before the Professional Discussion

The Professional Discussion will be:

• carried out via video conferencing (Zoom)
• up to 60 minutes (+/-10%)

The apprentice will deliver a Presentation on key points from the Learning Journal followed by a Q&A session.

The Presentation will:

• last 20 minutes (+/-10%)
• cover three of the apprentice’s best competency-based examples from their Learning Journal

The Q&A session will:

• contain three to five open questions and further probing questions
• last 25 minutes (+/-10%)

Once the EPA is finished the assessor will review the evidence provided and make a judgement against each component of the standard. The outcome of the EPA will be based on the results in both assessment methods.

The results will be uploaded:

• on the EPA platform SmartEPA
• with qualitative feedback
• two to three weeks after the EPA2 Presentation and Q&A based on the Learning Journal

The CIPD will apply for the Apprenticeship certificate from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) on behalf of all apprentices who successfully complete EPA.
