The professional discussion is a structured conversation led by the assessor and underpinned by the apprentice's portfolio of evidence. The integrated unit is assessed as part of the qualification during the EPA period. It is assessed by the study centre. It will follow the assessment structure and rules of the CIPD Level 5 Diploma in People Management. Unit achievement must not be claimed by the study centre until after the apprentice has attempted the other two assessment methods.
The CIPD have created resources which include how to guides, templates and policies. These resources are designed to support apprentices, employers and training providers when preparing for EPA.
Once the EPA is finished, the assessor will review the evidence provided and make a judgement against each grading descriptor. The outcome of the EPA will be based on the results in the Presentation with Questions, Professional Discussion underpinned by a Portfolio of Evidence and 5CO03 Integrated Unit. The CIPD will apply for the Apprenticeship Certificate from the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) on behalf of all apprentices who successfully complete EPA.
