When you're a Chartered Member, you can use the designation Chartered MCIPD after your name.

 

What do I need to apply for Chartered Membership?

You can apply for Chartered Membership if you have at least one year of experience working at Chartered Member level.

This will mean, you are an experienced people professional who strategically delivers solutions that drive change and shape organisational and professional progress. Leveraging your expertise, you influence stakeholders and make evidence-based decisions that align people strategies with business goals and broader industry trends.

The membership levels are aligned with the Profession Map. The membership standards contain the core knowledge and core behaviours of the map, which you need to demonstrate in order to join as a Chartered Member. Find out more about the membership standards.

Qualification-based routes

If you have completed a CIPD Advanced diploma (Level 7) or or a CIPD accredited Postgraduate Diploma/Masters degree from a recognised university approved by CIPD, you may be able to upgrade to Chartered Member by completing an Upgrade Assessment.

Experience-based routes

If you’re currently working at a Chartered Member level and can demonstrate how you meet the membership standards, become a Chartered Member by completing an Experience Assessment.

This experience based, no study route into membership recognises the knowledge you’ve gained, and your impact as a people professional through a written submission and professional discussion with an assessor.

Membership for apprentices

As an apprentice on one of the HR, L&D or People standards, you will be eligible to come into CIPD membership. You can apply for CIPD Student Membership at any stage of your journey. Once you successfully complete your End Point Assessment (EPA), you will be eligible for a professional grade of membership.
