CIPD Buddy

Hello.

My name is David D'Souza and I'm Director of Profession at the CIPD.

I'm here to talk to you about technology and AI in particular, which is why I've got a board that's full of technical wizardry behind me.

None of it is commercially sensitive. We're all good there...

So, last October we launched CIPD Buddy which was our solution, our pilot, to try and use generative AI to provide you with quality answers around the questions that you might have or content on our website is to get you what you need at the speed you need it in a really easy format, allowing you to have natural language conversations with a chat bot to get you that info. 

Since then we've had over 5,000 members use that whilst it's in pilot, over 16,000 questions asked and answered, and 85% of the people that have used it had been clear with us that they're finding it useful.

We will keep our work going on that over the coming months to try and improve the quality of what's offered, to make sure that it's consistent and that it's safe to use as far as it can be, given the nature of the technology before we release it further, but all of your usage of it so far has driven value for us in terms of us having the right information to be able to improve that over time, we think it will be an absolute game changer, actually, for the way that you access content from us and make use of it.

It's really important that we pilot things responsibly and take the right steps to put safeguards in.

But thank you for your feedback so far, and more than anything, I'm really glad that we're working on something that our members are clearly finding so valuable and clearly think will add value to them, longer term.
