Welcome to our branch

Thank you for visiting the West of Scotland branch page and for your interest in our vibrant local community of people professionals. We're an active and successful branch with over 4,000 members living and working in the area. We're spread across a wide geographical area from Argyll and Bute in the North to Dumfries and Galloway in the South, taking in Ayrshire, Renfrewshire, Lanarkshire, Dunbartonshire and Glasgow.

Whether you’re working in the people profession or a business leader, we believe you can benefit most from your membership by actively participating in the branch activities. This may be through attending events, contributing to our newsletters, participating in our online discussions, and supporting our activities.

If you are a CIPD member, you can join our branch committee and have direct involvement in running the branch as we work to organise engaging and relevant events to support our local members. We also welcome support from members who want to be a Friend of the Committee contributing where you can. Whatever level of involvement you can contribute, we have no doubt you will find it both valuable and enjoyable.

Get involved

Our branch is run by a committee of volunteers who create and organise the annual programme of events. Our aim is to reach as many of our members as possible with a range of events hosted in locations across our area and online.

We run branch events across all times of the day, to try and accommodate different priorities. These include breakfast, lunchtime, and early evening events. We ensure a good spread of locations to allow for local networking, as well as online events to accommodate those that are geographically restricted or those that just cannot add another in-person event into their working day. All events are listed in the monthly branch newsletter and on Eventbrite. Make sure your keep My Profile here on the CIPD website up to date to ensure you receive our branch newsletters.

If you would like to get involved with the branch, by joining the committee, becoming a Friend of the Committee (helping us organise specific events), offering us a venue for events, are interested at speaking at an event or even suggesting event topics or articles for our newsletter then please do get in touch by email.

Just starting out on your career? Want to meet experienced people professionals and keep up to date with all the topics you cover in your studies? We’re here for you as you study for your CIPD qualification.  

Member-to-member mentoring

We connect members who want to develop new skills and progress their careers, with members who have expertise in coaching and mentoring. If you are interested in becoming a mentor, please get in touch – unfortunately, we're not able to take on any new mentees at the moment.

Join one of our special interest groups

We bring together people professionals with a common interest to network, share ideas and learn from one another. Please email us if you’d like to join one of our special interest groups.

Voluntary sector group

The HR Voluntary Sector Forum Special Interest Group (SiG) hosts events in the Central Belt. We also bring together HR professionals to create opportunities for shared learning and to collectively discuss and influence national policies and challenges affecting the voluntary sector.

Our events are open to the wider West of Scotland Branch membership and we have high attendance and engagement with CIPD and SIG members.
