Welcome to our branch

A warm welcome to the South Yorkshire and District page, which showcases our vision to our local members and provides details of our events and mentoring scheme.

We became co-chairs in the summer of 2023 and are delighted work alongside fellow volunteer CIPD members to service over 2,500 members in the South Yorkshire area. We share opportunities to join our branch committee through our regular newsletters, so please make sure you receive your copy by signing up below, if you haven’t done so already and if you're interested in joining us, we’d love to hear from you.

The overall purpose of the branch is to support the CIPD in Championing Better Work and Working Lives on a local level. Our branch objectives are:

  • To act as advocates of the CIPD locally in support of national and international member objectives and engage with and listen to our members' needs.
  • To host and run local events to enable local CIPD members to share, learn and grow and provide networking opportunities.
  • To provide ongoing support to all branch members with their career development.
  • To further build good relationships with the CIPD members of the future, focusing on our student population and local centres offering CIPD programmes, via our in-person and virtual events. We hope to see you at one of our events very soon.

Get involved

The South Yorkshire and District Branch is run by a committee of volunteer HR and OD professionals, who work locally to provide our members with information, tools and events to support you in your career. The branch committee is proud to support over 2,500 members, spread across the Barnsley, Chesterfield, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield areas.

The committee undertake its objectives with clear communication and a programme of great, events free to CIPD members. We also run a bespoke mentoring scheme in support of your continuous professional development. The scheme provides an arrangement lasting approximately nine months, in which an experienced individual (mentor) offers ongoing support and guidance to a less experienced individual (mentee) to help the mentee manage their own learning and career development.

Our branch events run throughout the year and suit all levels of our membership. We run a very active and vibrant events committee that plan both online and face-to-face topical events. You can find out more about our activities programme by following our social channels.

With workshops, round tables, panel discussions and expert speakers, our thought-provoking events cover everything our community needs. Network, learn and stay up to date.

Support for student members

Just starting out on your career? Want to meet experienced people professionals and keep up to date with all the topics you cover in your studies? We’re here for you as you study for your CIPD qualification.  

The branch are proud to built well-established links with Doncaster College, Sheffield College, Sheffield Hallam University and the University of Sheffield, who offer CIPD accredited programmes and learning.

Our student members will build the CIPD of the future, and we very welcome at all branch events and run some targeting your needs. 

Student members’ community
We run a thriving student community with representation across the colleges and Universities in South Yorkshire, which is coordinated by our Student Liaison Officer. Activities from this group are communicated via our newsletter and social media channels.

Member-to-member mentoring

We connect members who want to develop new skills and progress their careers with members who have expertise in coaching and mentoring.
