Focus on…workplace conflict

This month we’ve been focusing on content and resources to help people professionals prevent and resolve conflict in the workplace. We published new insights into the gap between employers’ confidence in their anti-bullying and harassment policies, and employees’ experiences on the ground. To help people professionals address the gap, we’ve gathered all our insights and guidance on this important topic into one, easy to find place.

In the coming months, we’ll cover topics such as the UK Government's ‘Plan to Make Work Pay’, workplace performance and skills, and the impact of AI in the workplace.

New data highlights need to step up recruitment and retention strategies

Highlighting the latest recruitment and retention trends in the UK, the CIPD and Omni RMS Resourcing and talent planning report shows that competition for skilled candidates remains strong, and employers are struggling to recruit and retain qualified workers.

The report offers practical advice on how to improve recruitment and retention, including clear workforce planning, exploring technology solutions, providing training and growth opportunities for existing employees, and having a supportive induction process to engage employees from the start of the employee lifecycle.

Survey reveals strong employer commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI)

We asked employers about the impact of EDI initiatives on the workplace, how they’d been influenced by external narratives, and what does the future hold. And the response was clear: EDI is not just a trend, but a fundamental aspect of a resilient and thriving workplace.

Despite heightened media coverage of anti-EDI rhetoric or backlash, our latest survey of more than 2,000 employers in the UK paints a clear picture of the importance of EDI for employers. A significant majority have maintained or increased their commitment in the past two years, and a mere 2% report a decreased focus

We’re calling for greater investment in people management capability and stronger partnerships between employers and employees, to enhance working practices within sectors such as retail and hospitality.

But it can be a challenge to strike the right balance between offering the operational support that line managers need and the strategic direction the business needs.  In this final article in our HR operating models series, we look at the factors shaping the role of an HRBP and how to overcome the common challenges.
